Game Design

Scuba diving is mainly done for the attraction of the unattainable undersea world. It is one area of nature the human being has not been able to control yet.The following is a  game experience design for those who are enthusiastic to learn about scuba diving and about the safety rules of scuba diving.

Brief

To come up with a design solution for people to learn about the safety aspects and various other rules of Extreme Tourism activities. To create an engaging experience so that children and adults develop comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the dos and don'ts of extreme tourism activities and sports.

About

Designing a gaming experience for children and young adults to learn about the various
aspects of scuba diving.

Target Users

Children and young adults who want to pursue a career in scuba diving, or want to
experience it from a tourist's point of view. And those who are simply curious about the
underwater world.

Purpose

The aim is too make learning about the safety rules of scuba diving interesting and fun for children rather and making them aware of the safety rules. Sometimes it can be tedious to read from a manual or a book, hence this game will make the learning experience fun and memorable.

Components

1.An elaborate and fun boardgame with a set of game rules.
2. A mobile game prototype for children who might not want to play boardgames in the growing digital age.

Game Rules

The goal of playing DiveDeep is to reach the treasure
marked with a cross at the centre of the board.
Select your pawn! Roll 6 to start moving.

If you step on a ‘DO’ tile, you have to go 2 steps forward.
If you step on a ‘DON’T’ tile, you have to go 2 steps
backwards.
If you step on a ‘Pick a Card’ tile, you must pick the top
card from the deck. Then you have to do what the card
says. The different functions of the cards are mentioned
later.

If you step on a tile with this symbol (octopus)it means
that your path has been obscured by octopus ink. So you
miss a turn. You can’t play in the next round. (This can be
nullified using the Super-Vision card mentioned below)
If you step on a tile with this symbol (oxygen tank), your
oxygen level has reduced to a minimum. So you miss a
turn. You can’t play in the next round. (This can be
nullified using Grow-Gills card mentioned below)
You can collect coins by picking coin cards.

Note
treasure box.png

The person who reaches the end first wins 10 coins from
the treasure box. However this does not mean that
he/she has won.
The game continues untill all the players clear. However
the next players to win will not get coins from the
treasure box. They will only get coins from the cards. In
the end the person who has the maximum amount of
coins wins.
Remember, that in scuba diving we should always wait
for our companions and not leave anyone behind.
Team-work is essential!

Shuffle all the cards and place the deck on the card bank. Pick the top card when you step on ‘Pick a Card’
tile. After picking a card, keep the card with you.

Question card
You have to answer the question in the card. Read out the question as well as your answer to your friends and
then ask one of you friends to check the answer sheet. If you get the correct answer, you get another turn. If
you get the wrong answer, you miss a turn.

Coin card
Take as many coins from the coin bank as mentioned on the card.

Shark attack card
This is the most dangerous card. If you get this card, you have to go back to the start. You can save yourself if
you have the appropriate super power card mentioned next.

Superpower cards
There are 4 types of super-power cards:

1. Shark tongue card- Allows you to talk to sharks and prevents them from attacking you. So if you have
this card, shark attack will be nullified.

2. Super-Speed card- If you get this card, you will gain super speed and can go 5 steps ahead

3.Super-Vision card- If you get this card, you will gain super vision and can see through black octopus ink. So
you can use this card if you step on octopus ink attack tile, and the attack will be nullified.

4. Coin Magnet card- If you get this card, you become a coin magnet and attract 5 coins. Collect 5 coins from
the bank if you get this one.

5. Grow Gills card- If you get this card, you have grown gills temporarily. So this will nullify the next oxygen
shortage obstacle. However you will not be able to use this card again.

Note- After every card is used, it has to be kept aside (preferably back in the box) as they can’t be used again.
Note- You can give your card to your fellow player if they reach a crisis and do not have the appropriate card.
By giving someone your card, you can go 3 steps forward. Remember, it’s always good to help a fellow diver.
